A Wall of Wind Power

Ah, a nice decorative outdoor panel that could hide your garbage cans or provide backyard privacy! It's also a kinetic artwork, and the panes on this wall spin around in the wind. But more importantly, they harness the power of the wind and turn it into electricity! Joe Doucet designed the Wind Turbine Wall that turns 25 vertical rods to produce enough electricity for an average household.

This model is eight feet tall and 25 feet wide, but Doucet imagines they can be scaled up and erected on the sides of highways, where natural wind would be supplemented by the wake of trucks passing by. There is still the question what happens when a bird flies into it or a child sticks a finger into it. This time of year, I could see having to sweep leaves out of it every day.
