"As Is" is Often a Warning

Would you pay $399,900 for a one-bedroom, one-bathroom, 800-square-foot riverfront home in Juneau, Alaska? It looks pretty nice, and has a two-car garage. The interior looks quite modern, although it could use some color. But let's step around and see the rest of the house. Oh no.

Now you see why it only has one bedroom and only one bath. It apparently had more than that before the flood came through. The rip rap has been repaired, but the home is condemned. Why they bothered with interior photos of the remaining apartment over the garage is beyond me. It doesn't even have a back wall. There is no structural report on the part that is left standing. The real estate listing says the property is being sold "as-is, where is." I guess that means that you cannot buy just the remaining structure and then move it. Remember, location is everything. A flood took the biggest part of this house down, and that river is still there. It may flood again. The whole listing makes one wonder what is it is about Juneau that would command such a price for so little left. That's $500 per square foot! -via Fark ā€‹
