This chair might remind you of a certain Chumbawamba song. Nothing's ever gonna keep it down. The Virén Chair from Fortum uses design features and weight distribution to self-right itself. No matter which way it falls, it will roll into a position to reorient itself upright. The chair is named for Finnish distance runner Lasse Virén. At the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Virén fell during the 10,000 meter event, but got back up and not only won the race, but set a new world record!
The Virén Chair is a marvel of engineering, but Fortum is not a furniture company. They develop sustainable products, such as the post-consumer recycled plastic the Virén Chair is composed of, Fortum Circo® recycled plastic. As of now, the Virén Chair is not on the market, but is a proof-of-concept built to showcase the material. But who knows? You might be able to get one in the future. -via Homecrux
