The Home with Two-Foot-Tall Address Numbers

How often do you think about the address numbers on your home? Probably not often enough. From the perspective of someone trying to find a particular address, many of them are too small, too poorly lit, badly placed, or blend into the background. In the last couple of years when we are getting more home deliveries, such as groceries, take-out dinners, or items bought online, finding a home by its address number has become crucial. And in an emergency, you don't want an ambulance driver to wander around the neighborhood trying to find you. But a homeowner often regards these numbers as a mere obligation that may interfere with the overall look of one's home. That's not the case with this house. The address numbers are a dominant feature, and they are gorgeous.

Dan Kois has walked the streets of Arlington, Virginia, and taken note of home features including address numbers. Caryn Wagner's two-foot-tall address numbers impressed him so much that he requested an interview with her. She explained how her numbers are "kind of a utilitarian piece of art." She turned a feature that no one thinks about into something that puts her home on the map, both literally and figuratively. Read how it all came about at Slate. -via Metafilter ā€‹
