Need more storage in a small space that looks good? A piece of furniture from the 1800s might do just fine, and you've probably never heard of it. A "side-by-side" is a type of secretary desk that's tall, rather shallow, and has a desktop that folds up into the cabinet. The storage areas can hold bookshelves, drawers, cabinet space, or exposed knick knack shelves. It's like an office in one piece of furniture!
@kelsey_glennon I recently bought a side-by-side or secretary desk (or secrétaire) to store my photography props. According to antique expert, Bill Rau, side-by-sides were popular at the end of the Victorian era and the beginning of the Art Nouveau era (1890-1920). Once used for letter writing, I see these antique pieces as having modern day functionality in the home for uses like makeup station, fold away office, or even a unique bar. Have you seen them before? Do you want one? #antique #thriftok #antiquefurniture #antiquestorefinds #antiques #vintage #vintagestyle #artnouveau #victorian #victorianvibes @apartmenttherapy
