This Is a Truth Window

This photo shows a “truth window” built inside a building at St. Ann’s Community Orchard in Nottingham, UK. Straw Bale, a website dedicated to promoting straw bale construction, tells us that this decorative feature common to straw bale facilities, is a hole in the plaster coating of a wall. It reveals to curious visitors that the thick walls are indeed made of straw. This one is fairly plain, but many are elaborately decorated portals that beckon visitors into a hidden world.

Straw Bale advocates actually covering the truth window with glass in order to avoid letting moisture spread into the walls.
