Ugly Architecture is in the Eye of the Beholder

What makes a building ugly? It could be an unexpected clash of style or function, like the house shown above. You can almost imagine that someone dreamed all their lives of sleeping in a castle turret, or maybe an airport control tower, but didn't have enough money to build the rest of the castle, and that's just sad. And ugly.

Sometimes it's the total lack of features that could distinguish a building from a shoe box or a single brick. We are almost used to that look in commercial buildings, but in a home, it strikes the viewer as a dismal place to live. These are the kinds of places you'll find in the subreddits Ugly Architecture and Ugly House. But some people have a different idea of ugly.

This might not be your cup of tea, but I like it. Then again, I live in a 116-year-old bright yellow house. I firmly believe neighborhoods should have different colors, although I would leave Barbie pink for someone else to live in. But half the people who commented on the reddit post like it as well, and suspect that the homeowner is a rather interesting person. Your mileage may vary.

Bored Panda has a ranked gallery of 30 homes and buildings gleaned from both subreddits that you can vote on to show what kind of home you would find ugly. And then be glad you don't live in them.
