Kinetic Scissor Door by Dekay's Craft is a Multi-Hinge Cabinet Door That Splits and 'Fold' Opens
Youtuber and woodworker Dekay’s Crafts built the “Kinetic scissor door” that uses a series of folding pieces to open in a unique way. Common wooden doors usually open with a single hinge or a sliding rail, but this door takes it up a notch. Dekay’s scissor door splits up into 6 different pieces as it opens and comes back into a flat panel when closed. This unique door uses 6 hinges that allow the complex movement of the 6 pieces to reassemble when opening and closing the door. Diagonal cuts at 45 degrees across can be seen with an aspect ratio of the door being 2:1.Anyone familiar with Klemens Torggler’s Evolution door from 2013 may recognize this format. Instead of a simple door that swings or slides, Both Torggler’s and Dekay’s doors split and fold. There is really no benefit in constructing such but it is visually appealing and much more interactive.#Door #Woodwork #KineticScissorDoor #DekaysCrafts #SplittingDoorVideo Credit: Dekay’s Crafts
Framing a Space With Lattice Work
Nestled against the Blue Ridge Mountains of Asheville, North Carolina is the grand Biltmore Estate. This amazing property is known for its glorious informal and formal gardens. It is here that horticultural experts, and hobby gardeners alike, take infinite delight in the beautiful bounty that nature provides. One, however, does not have to be railroad tycoon to find inspiration in the magnificent gardens of the Biltmore. Simple structures, like the above lattice work window, are easily incorporated into smaller gardens. Even though the structure is uncomplicated it is still incredibly dramatic. The open oval center creates the illusion that one is peering through a window. The lattice work generates the perception of a wall. Even though one can see through the lattice, and open oval, it conveys to the viewer that they are inside looking out. #lattice #oval #woodwork #garden #gardendesign #Biltmore #landscape #hardscape
A Dramatic Hallway With a Glorious Barrel Ceiling
Hallways are modernly not given much thought. They are typically viewed as mere passage ways to grander spaces. At most they are treated as a location to hang a myriad of family photos and collected art. Perhaps this way of thinking is wrong. Perchance hallways are a missed opportunity to create something truly spectacular. The hallway above was reimagined into this opulent and stately space. The area is clearly still a place to hang photos and art. The corridor, however, is no longer just a functional means to get from one room to the next. This hallway has emerged into a luxurious place of its own. With it's barreled ceiling, inlayed tile work, and highly detailed paneled molding this is a site to linger and enjoy. #hallway #corridor #passage #molding #trimwork #woodwork #barrelceiling #dramaticspaces
