Chainmail Armor for a Historic HouseHill House in Helensburgh, Scotland, was designed by renowned architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Built between 1902 and 1904, the design was decades ahead of its time. However, the exterior walls made of portland cement, which was very much state-of-the-art at the turn of the 20th century, has not stood up well over the past 100 years, especially since it rains all the time in Helensburgh. The water seeps in and has turned the cement into somewhat of a mush. What to do?
16th-Century Haunted Castle for SaleImagine living in a Scottish castle with ten bedrooms on 53 acres. This is Earlshall Castle, built beginning in 1546 by Sir William Bruce. The Bruce family occupied Earlshall castle for generations, including the infamous Sir Andrew Bruce, who earned the nickname "Bloody Bruce." This may have been because of the time he cut off the head of Richard Cameron, leader of the Covenanters in 1680. Or it could have been just because he was a bloodthirsty warrior in general. But the upshot is that the ghost of Bloody Bruce is said to have never left Earlshall, even though the Bruces died out in 1708. Some have heard his footsteps on the castle's spiral staircase. Would that cause you to think twice about buying this property?Besides the ten bedrooms, there are six bathrooms, eight reception rooms, a five-car garage, three cottages, a forest, a variety of gardens, and 19 acres of pasture. Earlshall castle is in Fife, with easy access to Dundee and Edinburgh. There are many golf courses and a beach nearby. The listing from Savills has details on Earlshall Castle, but you have to submit an application to find out the price. Still, anyone can see pictures of what's inside and out. Feeling Positively Green With Envy Over These Bold Emerald Colored WallsMany of us shy away from bold colors. We instead lean into shades of whites, blacks, and grays. Kate Arbuthnott Interiors, based in the United Kingdom, however isn't afraid to be adventurous. Just take a look at this striking emerald green room they are creating. The emerald green adds an unexpected amount of brightness to the room. The contrast is striking against the beautiful white millwork. A darker shade would have made the room feel dated, but this particular hue feels fresh and almost whimsical. While we may not all have the ability to live in such an architecturally beautiful abode in Scotland, this image does remind us of one thing. It emphasizes that it is okay to play with color. The picture nudges us to remember that paint is such a simple way to liven up and personalize a space.     #Scotland #interiordesign #boldcolors #emerald #green #UnitedKingdom
