Folded Steel Table by Michael Hilgers Adds an Extra Layer to Put Your Coffee CupMichael Hilgers is a Berlin-based architect with a background in cabinetmaking, design, and invention. His designs are usually innovative, with a minimalist aesthetic. Hilgers has reimagined classic product categories using a sensible approach for today's living and working. As part of his NIVO collection and with the help of the manufacturing company CASALA, he has introduced the HOKU side table. Three tables are included in the series, each of which is different in size but has the same folded steel tabletop and function. The bending table surface acts as a multifunctional side table and is inspired by a wave. It acts as a functional second level, space-saving furniture, and a magazine/newspaper rack, in addition to being aesthetically pleasing. The side table is entirely constructed of steel with a matte structural powder coating, while the coffee table has solid oak legs and is available in two sizes.Images by:Chris Van Koeverden#HOKU #Table #Steel #Multifunctional
Seesaw Table by Jeongh GhimJeong Hyeon Ghim, a South Korean design student, has created a chair and table influenced by Korea's military rule from the 1960s through the 1990s as a graduation project. His thesis titled, Move to Move, focuses on enforced obedience in social settings, particularly in South Korean culture, and how socially built standards hinder authentic bodily expression. This furniture, which consists of four chairs and a table with a candle on top, is used for small social gatherings. Jeong used the seesaw as a metaphor for a playground where the body is free of external expectations and can move freely with pure delight. The seesaw's up-and-down motion represents the highestand lowest social positions. The purpose of this design is to persuade individuals to shake their bodies and confront the hierarchy to disrupt the status quo. In hopes to show that there is a singularity of thought, ideas, and opinions, but making it harder for people to properly communicate between different points of view. The fight against political injustice is symbolized by Jeong’s clever Seesaw Table. Images by: Jeong Hyeon Ghim#Seesaw #Table #Chair #Move #Korean #JeongHyeonGhim
STARKVIND: IKEA's New Air Purifier Doubles as a Side TableIKEA has just released a new smart air purifier called STARKVIND that doubles as a side table. The STARKVIND is an indoor air purifier with a 3-filter system. The pre-filter catches large particles such as hair and dust. The particle removal filter aims to remove 99.5% of dust, pollen and airborne PM2.5 particles (or fine inhalable particles with diameter of 2.5 micrometers or smaller - about 100 times smaller than the width of the human hair). Lastly, the gas filter absorbs various gaseous pollutants like formaldehyde and other VOCs (volatile organic compounds). It will also reduce unpleasant odors such as those from cooking and smoking.IKEA's new air purifier has 5 different fan speeds and can be used in rooms up to 20 square meter (215 square feet). While the technical aspect of the air purifier is quite adequate, IKEA improved the practical usability of the air filter up one notch by integrating it into a side table. This means that we no longer have to figure out where to put the air purifier, or shuffle between putting it out for use and then storing it in the closet when it's no longer needed. The IKEA STARKVIND air purifier is scheduled to be available in IKEA stores starting October 2021.Image: IKEA#airpurifier #IKEA #table #sidetable
