This Home Was Created To Wrap Around An Apple TreeThis place is stunning.Montreal-based studio ACDF Architecture created a low-slung contemporary home that was designed to wrap around an apple tree. Even cooler, residents of the house will get a glimpse of the tree from all rooms around the living space! It’s like a modern and stylish version of a fairy grove, where cool mystical beings gather. The home also has an all-black exterior, which is quite unique compared to other homes out on the market. Additionally, ACDF Architecture designed the home for its residents to experience and enhance a deeper connection with nature. The owner of the home, who commissioned the project, wanted the apple tree to be part of his home. “The owner embraced vivid childhood memories of growing up in an orchard environment. The apple tree was symbolic of his earliest encounters with nature as a child, and of the continuity of that connection years later while picking apples with his own children,” the company explained.Image credit: ACDF Architecture #homes #architecture #interiordesign #realestate
The $100 Mural That Made This Bathroom Look Expensive There are certain steps that we can take to make our house look more expensive! Some of them can just involve our DIY and artistic skills. This is what artist and muralist Kelly Aiken of Copeley Designs did as she renovated her bathroom. She decided to add some accent walls to spice up the said room.Accent walls can be done to recreate a vibe of a luxury hotel room or store. Additionally, creating this kind of decoration on your own can lead you to add anything that you’d like. To create an accent wall for your chosen space, you just need to pick one side of the wall to paint a different color in comparison to the rest or do what Aiken did. For Aiken, she decided to paint a mural over the blank, citrus green colored wall. Wanting it to be a bit more glam and serene, she took the time to paint a mural with blended colors, textures, and a bit of shimmer to make the room pop, so to speak. It reminds us of the fancy, luxurious store windows we see. “I love to paint murals for my art business and thought I would try my signature drip and gold leaf wall look using colors from other rooms in my home,” Aiken shared. “I love this new twist to an accent wall. it creates more texture and depth in the room as well,” Check more before and after photos of Aiken’s work below! Image credit: Kelly Aiken #interiordesign #art #murals #roomtransformation #KellyAiken #accentwalls

"Room-Like" Furniture for a Japanese Corporation DormTakenaka Corporation, a Japanese general contracting firm requires its new hires to spend a year at its live-in training facility. The goal for the year is to learn the ropes, so to speak. You’d live in a company dormitory while training. This kind of business practice is common in Japan, by the way.The company had its training-employee dormitory redesigned in 2019. Under the creative vision of design consultancy Taiji Fujimori Atelier, the place was given a minimalistic, clean look through the furniture they provided. The common areas were adorned with comfortable sitting areas, where employees can do their work sitting on the soft, elevated, floor cushions. The highlight of the Atelier’s work is in the dorm rooms of the building. Equipped with unique sliding doors, the rooms allow the person inside to open the upper door to let in some fresh air while having their room still hidden from public view. The interior is composed of furniture that can be described as super minimal, or as the design consultancy described it, “room-like furniture.” This kind of style combines shelves, closets, beds, and desks as a single unit that looks like a one-stroke line.  “While making a small room practical and functional, the unit still keeps the appearance as one piece of furniture," they added. Image credit: Taiji Fujimori Atelier#furniture #interiordesign #companydormitory #TaijiFujimoriAtelier #TakenakaCorporation
Dezeen's Top Ten Home Interiors of 2021Design magazine Dezeen has selected the best home interiors they've featured in 2021. What they have in common: they are all minimalist, uncluttered, and modern. They all take advantage of available light. Otherwise, they each have their own charms. One has curved forms instead of conventional walls and ceiling, to deliberately rebel against preconceived notions of what a room is. Some are cleanly monochromatic, while others are quite colorful without being busy. None display any printed fabric or personal collections, and few pieces of art are on display in any of them. Take a look at the standout interiors of 2021 with a description for each, and links to more information, at Dezeen. You can see more more Dezeen's best of 2021 here.#homeinterior #interiordesign
Decorating Tips from Interior Designer Nina CampbellRenowned interior designer Nina Campbell is celebrating 50 years in the business. Over that time, she's seen every kind of decorating challenge you can imagine. In honor of the occasion, here are a few pieces of wisdom she's shared over the years.John Fowler told me never to plan a room completely. Sort the bones and then walk into the room and it will tell you what it wantsI don’t have any rules about colours for bedrooms; I once stayed with a friend who had lined the walls of their spare room in a deep burgundy cloth. I have never slept better in my life; it was like being back in the wombSpend a night in any spare bedrooms you have to make sure they’re comfortable for visitorsA room needs time to settle into itself and it often looks better a few weeks after it’s been finished, so don’t pass judgement on your efforts too soonYou can see in just those tidbits that she values flexibility. While that's just a taste of Campbell's decorating advice, you can find 50 such tips at Country Life.-viaNag on the Lake #decor #interiordesign #NinaCampbell
Finally! Official Pokemon Furniture Line for Grown Ups has Launched with Pikachu-Inspired Sofa and Poke Ball TableThe Pokemon Company has teamed up with Japanese furniture and interior furnishings company Karimoku to produce a line of furniture that looks sleek and minimalistic at times. These new pieces of furniture are inspired by the cute pocket monsters we all love and are familiar with, but not to the point that it either looks childish or too in your face.At first glance, the items in the collection look like abstract patterns, fooling people into thinking they are not inspired by the popular franchise. On a closer inspection, one can spot the Pokemon designs on the curtains, sheet, and floor mat.The collection features a Pikachu sofa, a two-seater sofa model with bright colors, and a Pikachu pattern. In addition to that, there is also a one-person easy chair, a Poke Ball side table, and a gigantic Snorlax rug that looks elegant enough to be placed in your main living room. The collection can be purchased through the Pokemon Center Online store starting October 14. Don’t worry, these can be placed within your very adult home without anyone complaining about its ‘childishness’ or campiness (then again it’s your home, so who cares if you want an over-the-top Pikachu sofa? You do you!).Image credit: via JapanToday#Pokemon #Furniture #HomeDecor #InteriorDesign #Karimoku #Pikachu #Sofa
One Step Ladder by Cameron RowleyIt’s a unique ladder and good home decor!Meet the One Step Ladder, the winner of The Conran Shop’s inaugural Designer of the Future Award. The One Step Ladder, designed by Cameron Rowley, was intended as a domestic tool and a display piece. The Kingston University graduate placed a heavy emphasis on the ladder’s function. While his work looks simple, Rowley created a unique and new spin on ladders and step ladders. The contraption is a combination of a step stool and ladder. According to Rowley, it is an item that could be used ‘only for a brief moment.’ In addition, the design occupies a smaller space in the house compared to its regular counterparts.Image credit: The Conran Shop #OneStepLadder #CameronRowley #DesignerOfTheFutureAward #HomeDecor #UniqueLadder #InteriorDesign #TheConranShop
Loads and Loads of Colorful Laundry Room Design Fun Who says laundry rooms have to be purely utilitarian and boring? Just because a space has a practical purpose doesn't mean it has to be humdrum and lifeless. Why not make that place a truly happy space?Tina Bousu of @eclectic_twist turned her tired laundry space into a bright and playful work of art. The small room now features an adventurous and colorful style. The cabinets have been painted a radiant coral pink. Furniture style hardware adorns the cheerful cabinetry. Oval shaped mirrors have been placed above the counter. Those mirrors are perfectly mounted to suggest that this location in the house is larger than its actual size. Perhaps most noteworthy, however, is the use of a flower bouquet-shaped light fixture in the center of the room. This surprising element helps elevate the boho tropical feel of the design. Laundry rooms are the perfect space to have some good clean fun with interior design. The rooms tend to be small. Therefore, projects tend not to spin out of control. Working on this type of space in fact can actually be loads and loads of fun! #laundryroom #interiordesign #coralcolor #pinkcabinets #wallpaper

Bringing the Garden in With Trellis Decorated WallsDallas interior design firm Dunbar Road is responsible for the creation of this adorable and whimsical space. The room uses an abundance of trellis shaped molding and other trim work to give the room an airy conservatory feel. The color pallet is striking, but not shocking. The use of pale green, bright whites, yellows, and pops of pink remind someone of sitting in the garden.  Sometimes a great amount of molding in a room can make it feel stuffy. This room, however, feels airy and light. Perhaps that is due to the proliferation of bright whites and the moderate amount of furniture used. This is a bold and happy room. One could easily imagine sitting down at that table with friends. Perchance have few cups of tea, a smattering of pastries, and a good deal of belly laughs.  #trellis #gardenroom #diningspace #diningroom #homedecor #interiordesign #greenandwhite #gardentheme #whimsicalspaces

Feeling Positively Green With Envy Over These Bold Emerald Colored WallsMany of us shy away from bold colors. We instead lean into shades of whites, blacks, and grays. Kate Arbuthnott Interiors, based in the United Kingdom, however isn't afraid to be adventurous. Just take a look at this striking emerald green room they are creating. The emerald green adds an unexpected amount of brightness to the room. The contrast is striking against the beautiful white millwork. A darker shade would have made the room feel dated, but this particular hue feels fresh and almost whimsical. While we may not all have the ability to live in such an architecturally beautiful abode in Scotland, this image does remind us of one thing. It emphasizes that it is okay to play with color. The picture nudges us to remember that paint is such a simple way to liven up and personalize a space.     #Scotland #interiordesign #boldcolors #emerald #green #UnitedKingdom
Modern Bungalow Minimalist Home Comes With Glass Conservatory That Juts Out Of The House WallsSkylights are wonderful architectural features, but Ukrainian architect and interior designer Alex Svyryd really takes it to the next level. Svyryd has designed Chalet-2, a modern, bungalow-style house that combines a Scandinavian-inspired clean and minimalist design with a huge glass conservatory in the middle of the house. The unusual conservatory juts out of the wall, stretches from floor to ceiling and then continues on above the roofline as if it were a crystal jutting out of a rock. Clad in black, the exterior of the house seems to hint at secrecy and privacy of the interior space within. At the same time, the glass conservatory bisects the solid walls of the house on one side, thus providing a clear view inside (and the occupants, a clear view of the outside as well as a great source of natural light).Images: Alex Svyryd#skylight #conservatory #architecture #interiordesign #Scandinavian #bungalow #minimalist
